Title
VH-1 Presents Live in Dublin
Label: Atlantic
Genre: Celtic Folk Rock

|
It's fitting that video channel VH1 is partnered with the obscenely attractive sibs of the Corrs for this live recording, captured in Dublin, near the band's hometown in Ireland. Given the stiff competition in the pop arena and the Corrs' rather limited touring, looks have doubtless played a part in their global ascent, although, judging by Live in Dublin, they've earned some props along the way. Both U2's Bono and Rolling Stones guitarist Ron Wood guest, the latter on the Corrs' cover of Jimi Hendrix's "Little Wing" (though oddly not on their reading of "Ruby Tuesday"). Neil Young's "Only Love Can Break Your Heart" rounds out the tribute triumvirate, and fans can expect surprisingly clear-eyed versions of major and lesser hits like "Breathless" and "Runaway," plus a spirited, fiddle-fueled traditional in "Joy of Life/Trout in the Bath." |

Natalie Imbruglia
Title
White Lilies Island
Label: RCA
Genre: Pop Rock

|
Includes the US single "Wrong Impression" as well as the smash European hit "That Day."
The best moments on this effort are the edgier ones: the anxious opener, "That Day," with its nervous guitar and tumbling lyrics; the yearning space-pop of "Sunlight"; and the sparkling electro-acoustic rock of "Wrong Impression." Not all the tracks are keepers, but there is an appealing honesty and understated quality to White Lilies Island that makes it sound refreshing. After all, sadness can be catchy too |

Nelly Furtado
Title
Whoa Nelly
Label: Dreamworks
Genre: Pop Rock

|
Includes the hits "I'm Like A Bird", "Turn Off The Light", and the new single "Shit On The Radio".
Blame it on the bossa nova, but this chick has got soul. By filtering her Portuguese roots through the trip-hop she was weaned on, Nelly Furtado creates a hypnotic form of R and B/alternapop that at times sounds like Fiona Apple, Macy Gray, and Gwen Stefani all rolled into a Portishead song. Cutting her teeth at four Lilith Fair dates before even having a record contract, Furtado seems accelerated far beyond her 21 years. Listen, and you can hear the Portuguese fado tradition, Brazilian beats, flashy urban rhymes--enough snap, crackle, and pop to fill your breakfast bowl. |
